Transforming Lives Through the Educational Dog Kennel: Empowering At-Risk Youth and Rescued Dogs

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

In the picturesque surroundings of Kibbutz Eshbal, the Educational Dog Kennel is creating a powerful impact. This program brings together at-risk students from Dror Israel's Eshbal Boarding School and nearby Karmiel high school with rescued dogs, providing them with emotional and social therapy. Through caring for and training these dogs, the students gain valuable life skills and experience personal growth. Today, we invite you to learn more about this inspiring program and join us in supporting its expansion and ongoing operation.

At the Educational Dog Kennel, students rehabilitate and train rescued dogs, fostering their well-being and preparing them for adoption. This process also brings therapeutic benefits to the students themselves. They develop life skills such as responsibility, empathy, patience, and self-confidence. The connection forged between the students and the troubled dogs leads to emotional growth, making a profound impact on students' lives and preparing the dogs for successful adoption.

Since 2010, the Educational Kennel has rescued, trained, and housed dozens of dogs while providing therapy and vocational training for over 100 students. However, the current facilities require expansion and improvement to meet the growing demand. The kennel requires renovations to create professional training conditions for both the dogs and the students.

In addition to the expansion project, the renowned Eshbal Boarding School relies on ongoing contributions to aid in the kennel's day-to-day operating costs. Support of the kennel program provides essential resources such as psycho-social support and educational workshops for the students, as well as treats, adoption events, and necessary medical treatments for the dogs. Together, we can make a lasting difference in the lives of these vulnerable students and their four-legged companions.

A training session

Yaniv, a student at the boarding school, shares his transformative journey with one of the dogs named Star. When he first began his work with her, she was very skittish and even tried to bite him. Over time, Yaniv gained Star's trust and successfully trained her, finding her a loving adoptive home. This experience enabled Yaniv to reflect on his own behavior and address personal struggles. Many students uncover profound insights about themselves through their work with the dogs, making strides towards personal growth.

The Educational Dog Kennel on Kibbutz Eshbal is a beacon of hope and healing, providing at-risk students with a transformative experience while offering a second chance to rescued dogs. Your support will contribute to the expansion and improvement of the kennel and enable these students to continue their personal growth and development. Together, let's create a brighter future for these teens and their furry companions.
