Dror Israel Students Bring Powerful Stories to Israel's Solidarity Film Festival

Updated: 4 days ago

In December 2025, students from Dror Israel’s Social High School network participated in the Solidarity Film Festival in Tel Aviv, Israel’s only film festival dedicated entirely to human rights. As part of the “Young Creators Competition,” high school film students from across the country presented original works addressing urgent social realities. Two Dror schools took part, and one of our films won third place in the national competition.

Dror Israel’s Social High School in Haifa presented “Mothers of Wounded Soldiers”, created by students in the school’s media studies vocational track. The documentary follows two mothers of sons who fought and were wounded during the “Iron Swords” war. Through intimate conversations and personal reflection, the film offers a rare and honest look into the emotional world of mothers of combat soldiers. Beyond the physical wounds, the film reveals how injury reshapes family life, relationships, and daily reality. Pain and anxiety are present throughout, yet so are pride, strength, and hope. The film was directed and produced by students Daniel Sharon and Yuval Dagan.

Dror Israel's Social High School in Tel Aviv won third place in the national competition with their documentary “Shomer Chomot” or “Guardian of the Walls”. The winning students are part of the school’s social communications vocational track, which combines professional media training with critical social engagement and civic responsibility. The film examines the events of Operation Guardian of the Walls in 2021 through interviews with three Jaffa residents who experienced the violence and unrest firsthand. Their testimonies reveal fear, tension, and moments of solidarity, reflecting the complexity of identity and shared life in the city during crisis. The film was directed and produced by Lily Gil, with cinematography by Michael Lavi and Noor Hifni, and editing by Shaked Avizmal.

We are incredibly proud of all our students. Their courage to ask difficult questions, their determination to listen deeply, and their passion for telling meaningful stories show what is possible when young people are trusted to lead with heart and integrity. Through creativity and conviction, they are not only learning about the world around them, they are shaping it.
