The Future of Education Begins with a Question

What does it mean to educate for the future in a society that is changing so rapidly?

For HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed (NOAL), Dror Israel's associated youth movement, the answer begins not with certainty, but with curiosity.

This summer, NOAL brought together leading educators, academics, youth movement leaders, civil society professionals, and local government representatives from across the country for an educational consultation conference. The goal was not to present a finished vision, but to open an honest conversation about the youth movement's evolving educational path and the challenges facing young people in Israel today.

Round table discussions brought together representatives from various fields for pressing conversations.

Participants explored some of the most pressing questions facing Israeli society today. How do we educate for democracy and shared society in an increasingly polarized reality? How do we cultivate leadership, responsibility, and belonging after years of war and social upheaval? And how can a movement with more than a century of history remain responsive to the needs of the next generation?

The conference embodied a simple but powerful belief: meaningful education is never finished. It is shaped through reflection, dialogue, and the willingness to listen.

As NOAL Co-Director Nitsan Rosenwaks-Ziv reflected afterward on the diverse range of participants in the conference, "You don't simply gain friends. You earn them through hard work." By investing in genuine relationships over many years, the movement has built a community of trusted colleagues willing to offer encouragement, ask difficult questions, and provide honest feedback.

That spirit was reflected throughout the day, as people from different backgrounds and perspectives came together around a shared commitment to Israel's young people and the future they will help build.

Postcards reflect participants wishes for NOAL's future

The conference concluded with a simple yet meaningful activity. Each participant received a postcard featuring artwork created by generations of NOAL members and wrote a wish for the movement's youth and educators over the next one hundred years. It was a fitting reminder that education is a conversation across generations, where the past inspires the present, and today's questions help shape tomorrow.
